Development policy of the future

Development policy of the future

“What is strategic foresight?
The illustrations should give a first impression of the experts' work.”

Task

How can a concept as abstract as strategic foresight be made visually tangible? The studio developed various illustrations. The motif of branching paths depicting possible future developments reflects the way strategic foresight works in a very concrete way. Other illustrations visualise the term “future” using symbols: An arrow pointing to the right stands for looking forward, a signpost provides orientation on the path to the future, and binoculars symbolise long-term perspectives. The studio developed the visual identity, illustrations, presentations and publications for the “Development Policy of the Future” project. Bright yellow and green as well as arrows and wavy lines form the visual brackets of the design.

Context

What does the future look like? To answer this question, the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development works with the method of strategic foresight. This involves systematically analysing possible future developments. The aim is to be better prepared for the future and – where possible – to actively shape it. The “Development Policy of the Future” project has expertise in strategic foresight and has advised the Ministry on future issues for eight years.
