Elgin Willigerodt
“The formal language of Elgin Willigerodt's sculptures is taken up in the typography. The result is a play of diagonals and triangles.”
Task
In the “Magic of Form” exhibition, artist Elgin Willigerodt focuses entirely on her abstract, painted sculptures. The graphic works are characterised by their lightness. Their intense colourfulness gives them an effortless presence as a “drawing in space”. In the exhibition leaflet, the typography on the title page and in the headings echoes the formal language of the sculptures. The result is an interplay of diagonals and triangles. The second leaflet is aimed specifically at architects and shows the relationship between Willigerodt's sculptures and architecture.
It presents works that were conceived or realised as part of art-in-architecture competitions.
Context
Elgin Willigerodt's artistic focus is on filigree, abstract sculptures made of painted wooden and metal rods or coloured plexiglas. Although her works feature geometric shapes, they do not appear static at all. Asymmetrical elements lend them vitality and movement. Architecture and dance serve as central sources of inspiration for the artist.
